Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post secondary Engineering degree in the fields of building sciences (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Management or related)
Experience: Candidates should have Minimum 5-7 years of experience in energy management and facility operational experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in project management and have 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable in renewable energy systems such as wind power, solar power, and other alternatives and knowledge in building code, electrical code, energy markets, utility rate structures, and billing
  • The candidates should be familiar with Building Automation Systems (BAS) theory, including systems like Metasys and Delta, and understand how these systems contribute to energy reduction programs within a facility
  • The candidates should have project Management experience, with a proven ability to create and interpret business cases and financial proposals and Having a Registration and Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • The candidates should have Knowledge and experience in one or more trade disciplines such as mechanical (HVAC, refrigeration), electrical (electrical distribution and lighting systems, automated controls systems), and civil (building structure and envelope)
  • The candidates should possess project management skills, effective report-writing skills, as well as presentation and communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop and coordinate the implementation of Citywide integrated energy management/conservation programs and capital projects for Facilities Asset Management & Capital Planning and keep all stakeholders informed on energy usage and expenditures to meet legislative, conservation, and fiscal responsibilities
  • The candidates should be able to prepare a corporate energy conservation and demand management plan and supervise the execution of the corporate energy strategy program and work with operating departments to define business units’ annual requirements and provide energy management business plans, identifying corporate strategic initiatives, capital budget needs, and goals and objectives for energy management
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and conduct energy awareness training for all city employees and oversee new capital construction or major renovation projects to ensure compliance with the latest energy efficiency requirements and standards
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the procurement of gas, hydro & water contracts while supervising corporate utility counts and the bill verification process and provide energy standards for equipment purchases and products used for building renovations and maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to give expert advice and guidance on the design, development, and implementation of energy management programs, policies, processes, and objectives and recommend improvements and changes to operating procedures for energy management to operational staff
  • The candidates should be able to recommend and implement a green energy/renewable energy program and verify expenditures and manage all utilities purchases, providing financial analysis, payback, and ROI models for all proposed projects
  • The candidates should be able to advise the Energy Advisory Committee and Senior Management Team on the impact of changes affecting facility operations and current budgets and gain access to available government/industry grants and incentives for energy initiatives and greening of facilities projects
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and document emission credits for future reporting and trading and monitor, track, and verify energy usage and expenditures at all City-owned assets, providing quarterly and annual reports and cost summaries
  • The candidates should be able to provide standards guidelines, tables, and schedules for energy billing and utility bill validation and verification (electricity and natural gas) and provide reports to external clients required by legislations or as a result of the city’s contribution to local or national initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to schedule and prepare all energy projects from inception to completion and provide required documentation for compliance with legislative provisions and corporate guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to keep abreast of all energy conservation initiatives and make recommendations as required and maintain collaborative partnerships with suppliers, local & provincial government officials, and affiliated agencies
  • The candidates should be able to prepare standards and guidelines for energy and water conservation applicable to corporate operations
