Canadian Blood Services is a non-profit organization that manages blood and plasma supply (outside Quebec). It provides blood, plasma, platelets, stem cells, and organ donation services. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed an accredited nursing program and hold a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of experience working as a nurse

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts based on operational needs, acknowledging that shift lengths may vary depending on events at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers
  • The candidates should be available to work shifts that include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • The candidates should be prepared to travel for mobile events in the community, with transportation provided by Canadian Blood Services
  • The candidates should meet the physical requirements of the role, including the ability to lift weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs.)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have as well as certification in First Aid and CPR, previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others
  • The candidates should possess technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and demonstrate the ability to learn new systems and programs
  • The candidates should speak a second language, which is considered an asset to support a positive donor experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to conduct registration and confidential screening to determine donor eligibility while building and promoting a positive donor experience through effective communication
  • The candidates should be able to provide donors with clear information, detailed instruction, and thoughtful advice on the blood donation process
  • The candidates should be able to provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff and act as the team lead during collection events
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively in a diverse team environment to assist in the collection of whole blood and apheresis blood components that contribute to saving lives
  • The candidates should be able to assist in setting up booths, tables, and other required equipment at mobile community events to ensure donor clinics are properly prepared and functional
