Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed related post-secondary education such as Occupational Health and Safety or a combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have Minimum of 5 to 7 years experience in a Health and Safety environment in the oil and gas industry leading/supervising staff

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to undergo required background checks and pre-employment medical testing subject to the Cenovus Drug and Alcohol policy

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of Regulatory requirements in the oil and gas industry
  • The candidates should possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience with Root Cause Analysis and Incident Investigations
  • The candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of performing safety audits and inspections, and experience working with 3rd party consultants and contractors
  • The candidates should hold a Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification or an equivalent qualification
  • The candidates should have undergone Process Safety Related Training (PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, P&ID Interpretation)
  • The candidates should hold Root Cause Analysis certification (Sologic) and have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide technical and functional leadership in Health and Safety for the business unit or site and assist the entity in developing gap closure plans to close identified gaps and ensure the closure plans are carried out to completion
  • The candidates should be able to champion the implementation of Health and Safety processes aligned with Cenovus’s Operational Integrity Management System (COIMS) and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and statutes for all aspects of Health and Safety specific to the operations of the assigned business unit
  • The candidates should be able to partner with the management of the entity to continue evolving the culture with a focus on continuous improvement and deliver on the yearly strategic goals and objectives laid out in the Deployed Health and Safety performance contract for that entity
  • The candidates should be able to ensure an assurance and self-verification program is functioning as designed within the entity, including all elements within COIMS, and carry out assurance activities outlined in the assurance plan
  • The candidates should be able to coach and mentor frontline leaders and staff on occupational safety to improve their knowledge and assist with implementing work safely, collaborating with site leadership to meet and/or exceed Performance Metrics outlined in the entity performance contract
  • The candidates should be able to provide an independent view of risk from operations and intervene as required based on identified risks and foster collaboration between the Deployed Health and Safety team and the Central Health and Safety Team, leveraging Technical Authorities and multi-disciplinary support as a conduit for communication
  • The candidates should be able to support and/or lead incident investigations, ensuring that the root cause is identified as per the requirements set out in COIMS, and coach and mentor site leadership to own and drive actions to prevent re-occurrence
