Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is a cornerstone of mental health support and advocacy. CMHA provides a range of community services, counseling, and educational programs. Salary: $26.44 – $32.79 Hourly
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Sault Ste. Marie, ON
Hours of Work: 12 Hour Shifts (Days and Nights)

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a minimum two-year diploma in a Human Services related field
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of one-year experience in the fields of mental health and addictions. Experience in housing services is preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of performing tasks involving heavy lifting, reaching, repetitive actions, and bending.
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to move, ascend, descend, and position oneself from the floor, maintaining these positions for prolonged periods

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be currently registered with OCSWSSW or a regulated body under the Regulated Health Professions Act, if eligible
  • The candidates should possess mandatory certification in ASIST, and First Aid/CPR, and Safe Food Handling (or willing to obtain on own within 3 months)
  • The candidates should maintain an acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check throughout employment, and provide effective client services in English and French, if possible

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to implement the low barrier shelter model, providing a safe haven for the most vulnerable community members
  • The candidates should be able to offer 24/7 support with discharge plans, emphasizing mental health, first aid, and overdose response
  • The candidates should be able to engage in Service Engagement, Assessment, Education, Goal Planning, Administration, Shelter Maintenance, and Community Relations/Advocacy
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with clients using Recovery principles and empowerment-oriented philosophies
  • The candidates should be able to possess extensive knowledge of mental health, addiction services, and screening tools
  • The candidates should be able to adeptly navigate conflicts, demonstrate emotional regulation, and showcase diplomacy and negotiation skills
  • The candidates should be able to exhibit excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • The candidates should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively, prioritizing self-care, and showcasing strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
