Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have successful completion of a Certified Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform intermittent lifting and assist patient’s movement into specific positions during patient assessment and testing, as well as intermittent movement/repositioning of heavy equipment
  • The candidates should be capable of performing frequent fine motor movements involving shoulder, hand, and wrist while applying a significant amount of pressure to the ultrasound transducer to enhance and define images
  • The candidates should be prepared to scan patients for 7 hours daily using moderate to high personal strength intensity

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess in-depth knowledge of and an advanced ability to perform and interpret detailed ultrasound examinations in the following areas: adult and pediatric neck, abdomen, pelvis, scrotum, adult heart, deep leg veins, breasts, and the pregnant abdomen, which includes the developing fetus
  • The candidates should have specialized knowledge of ultrasound physics required to create and interpret images produced
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to execute fine movements of the hand and wrist to accurately image subtle and minute detailed anatomy, indicating highly developed hand-eye coordination
  • The candidates should possess advanced knowledge of internal anatomy and physiology of all areas to be examined using sonography methods and be able to seek out and recognize pathological changes of internal anatomy. This includes knowledge of and an understanding of pathologies which may affect internal structures
  • The candidates should have an understanding of and an ability to conduct quality control measures on all ultrasound equipment
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of and an ability to efficiently operate a RIS and PACS system
  • The candidates should demonstrate initiative, showing persistence, and an ability to persist which may mean taking two or more steps to overcome obstacles or rejection, and not giving up easily when things do not go smoothly
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively, including being able to get one’s point across to both medical and non-medical individuals

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Technical Supervisor, Diagnostic Imaging Services for administrative purposes
  • The candidates should be able to utilize ultrasound equipment independently to produce and interpret high-quality sonographic images required by the Radiologist for accurate diagnosis of patients
  • The candidates should be able to perform sonographic examinations on various internal structures, including the adult and pediatric neck, abdomen, pelvis, scrotum, adult heart, deep leg veins, breasts, and the pregnant abdomen, which includes the developing fetus
  • The candidates should be able to provide hands-on support and patient care during invasive examinations conducted by a Radiologist, such as biopsies and aspirations
  • The candidates should be able to prepare for procedures by explaining them to the patient, documenting necessary images, and providing post-procedure care as required
  • The candidates should be able to locate specific areas for biopsy independently using real-time ultrasound, allowing the Radiologist/Physician to perform the procedure effectively
