Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of diploma in sport business administration, marketing, business, travel and tourism
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years of experience in the sport tourism/sport events industry

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have strong organizational skills, be detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize complex tasks and meet critical deadlines
  • The candidates should have the flexibility to work evenings and weekends, access to a reliable vehicle and a valid G license

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have with broad knowledge of hotel operations, meeting planning, customs, and government programs, preferably working for a local municipality, government agency, or a not-for-profit organization that worked closely with municipal government
  • The candidates should have 1-2 years of supervisory experience and the ability to supervise, guide, and motivate staff
  • The candidates should have superior report and proposal writing skills, strong presentation and consultation skills, be engaging and comfortable facilitating discussions or public consultations, and have demonstrated experience in building partnerships
  • The candidates should have strong customer service and people management skills to interface with internal and external customers and stakeholders while meeting corporate service standards
  • The candidates should have strong analytical skills for complex problem-solving, working knowledge of Perfect Mind, computer proficiency in Microsoft Office/software

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assess and recommend sport tourism event opportunities using City of Brampton and Canadian Sport Tourism Association criteria
  • The candidates should be able to develop and maintain print and digital sports marketing materials and sports calendars
  • The candidates should be able to manage the Sport Tourism Hosting Program, including calls for applications, application review facilitation, recommendations to the Director of Strategic Communications, Culture and Events, and applicant notifications
  • The candidates should be able to act as a liaison between sport event organizers and City of Brampton departments, accommodation providers, and other tourism stakeholders
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate and report on sport event performance using industry-recognized calculators, manage relationships with accommodation providers in Brampton to support tourism initiatives and maintain the Municipal Accommodation Tax
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the development and implementation of the City of Brampton sport tourism strategy, develop and contribute content for the annual Visitor Guide, social media, and website
  • The candidates should be able to develop sport tourism products in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, such as cycling, trails, and pathways, support City of Brampton initiatives, including half-marathons, 10K runs, and GT20 cricket events
  • The candidates should be able to assess and monitor performance and implement disciplinary measures as required to meet operational, supervise staff, prioritize tasks, and organize daily work direction to meet operational requirements
  • The candidates should be able to coach, mentor, and provide guidance and training as needed to support operational goals, participate in the recruitment and hiring process to meet staffing
