Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of Secondary School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of experience coaching/instructing squash
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be experienced squash players with formal theoretical knowledge and practical and technical skills required to teach beginning to advanced participants
- The candidates should hold a valid certificate for Emergency First Aid with CPR B at minimum and NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification
- The candidates should have a HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development certification
- The candidates should have the technical proficiency to perform and teach different levels of participants and demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills
- The candidates should be required to maintain certification and education standards as per Squash Ontario, Canada or World Federation Coach or Pro in good standing
- The candidates should have stroke and feeding skills that are consistent and display a high skill level
- The candidates should be able to provide verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cues to accommodate all learning styles
- The candidates should ensure explanations and instructions are clear and easy to understand and and verbal skills and program leadership skills
- The candidates should have coaching skills that are positive and encouraging in delivery tone
- The candidates should be prepared to undergo a Level 3 – Vulnerable Sector Check, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to plan and provide instruction and squash lessons for adults and youth ranging from beginner to advanced levels in a safe and inclusive environment
- The candidates should be able to gather information about clients’ personal goals, history, related skills, and current level of activity
- The candidates should be able to conduct practical skills assessments on clients to evaluate hand-eye coordination, movement ability (forward, backward, laterally), fitness level, and racquet skills
- The candidates should be able to create safe and effective lesson plans specific to the needs of clients using the IDEAS model promoted by Squash Ontario (Introduction, Demonstration, Explanation, Activity and Summary)
- The candidates should be able to ensure adequate equipment supplies are available and in working order, and that programming spaces are free of safety hazards
- The candidates should be able to provide clients with instruction and correction that is inclusive, respectful, and developmentally appropriate to ensure client success and ensure proper storage and maintenance of equipment at the end of each lesson or clinic
- The candidates should be able to incorporate HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery when appropriate and manage challenging behaviors from clients or participants and provide first aid
- The candidates should be able to plan and provide instruction for squash clinics and registered group instruction programs for adults and effectively provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to participants
- The candidates should be able to perform any required administrative duties and communicate any issues or information that impact quality and safety to the supervisor or Manager on Duty
