Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a two-year college program or equivalent in parks management, general maintenance, Certified Engineering Technician, or skilled trade
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five (5) years of progressive work experience in a related field, including general building maintenance and park construction, landscaping design and work

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to manage multiple changing demands, priorities, and implement a continuous learning approach
  • The candidates should have organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and document daily activities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a current Canadian Playground Safety Institute playground inspector certification, a current Cross Connection Certification (backflow)
  • The candidates should have an Ontario Parks Association Spray Pad Practitioner Certification, a Certified Arena Refrigeration Plant Technician certification
  • The candidates should have an Ontario Parks Association Trail Inspector Certification, a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated experience procuring and tendering goods and services in a municipal environment
  • The candidates should have a minimum of three (3) years of proven leadership experience, supervising a substantial number of staff or leading large work teams, preferably in a unionized, municipal environment
  • The candidates should possess excellent customer service skills, along with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • The candidates should be proficient in computer skills, including working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, as well as Collector and ArcGIS
  • The candidates should possess a valid G Ontario Driver’s License in good standing,  demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and safe work practices
  • The candidates should provide a current police records check (dated within the last three months) for approval by the corporation as a condition of employment, certification in First Aid and CPR Level C
  • The candidates should have IMS 200 Certification or equivalent (ICS200), which is considered an asset. Subject to course availability, certification must be achieved within the first year of employment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure the effective delivery and supervision of maintenance programs for the City of Brantford’s parks and outdoor facilities
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the supervision of projects, staff, and vendors to ensure timely and quality completion of work
  • The candidates should be able to perform system and facility inspections, identifying and addressing any maintenance or safety concerns
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that all parks and facilities meet high-quality standards and expectations
  • The candidates should be able to undertake and coordinate necessary repairs to maintain optimal facility conditions
  • The candidates should be able to manage and oversee winter maintenance activities, including winter control of park properties and associated areas
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the Public Works Department, especially during winter months when shift
  • The candidates should be able to participate in an on-call rotation to respond to Parks Services inquiries outside of regular working hours
  • The candidates should be able to work a flexible 35-hour workweek, which may include afternoons, weekends, and occasional unscheduled overtime
