Hours Per Week: 40 hours/week
Hours of Work: Monday to Sunday – Shifts can be scheduled between 5:00 am – 1:00 am – 8 hours/day as scheduled

Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a High School OSSD Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent or should have a college diploma in Horticulture or a related discipline
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of horticultural experience and/or greenhouse experience performing duties related to the above-mentioned responsibilities
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be 18 years of age or older
- The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a valid Class “G” Driver’s License, and a valid “DZ” License would be preferred. (Proof of license is required upon offer of employment)
- The candidates should have a possession of valid Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Landscape and/or Greenhouse Exterminator licenses would be considered an asset
- The candidates should have chainsaw experience/certification, First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS training are preferred. (Proof of training/certificate required)
- The candidates should have the ability to deal effectively with the public
- The candidates should have the ability to follow direction
- The candidates should have the ability to meet the physical demands requirements of the position
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform horticultural duties such as planting, maintaining, mulching, and pruning of annual, perennial, and shrub beds to enhance horticultural areas within parks, road allowances, and traffic medians throughout the City of Cambridge
- The candidates should be able to assist in garden design and plant selection
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the safe and efficient use of all job-related tools and equipment, including line trimmers, rototillers, brush chippers, agricultural tractors, chainsaws, rotary mowers, leaf blowers, sod cutters, rakes, shovels, etc.
- The candidates should be able to lead the work of part-time staff and instruct them in the safe and efficient use, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment, as well as the completion of horticultural practices
- The candidates should be able to perform watering duties at city gardens and downtown planters
- The candidates should be able to propagate, grow, transplant, and maintain various horticultural crops in the city greenhouse facility
- The candidates should be able to assist with monitoring and determining the necessary growing conditions and control of all plant pests using an Integrated Pest Management approach
- The candidates should be able to perform grass cutting and trimming of turf in selected locations
