Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • The candidates should be able to exercise independence of judgment and initiative in performing the duties of the position, understand figures and numbers, and read construction drawings and maps of underground services, utilities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain records, knowledge of methods, techniques, hand, power tools, and equipment used in Operations construction and maintenance,  knowledge of Surrey’s road system
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the vacusan system, knowledge of Surrey’s policies, procedures, and standards
  • The candidates should have knowledge of applicable safety regulations, understand figures and numbers, and read construction drawings and maps of pump stations, underground services, utilities
  • The candidates should have knowledge of drainage, sanitary, and water pump station operations and maintenance, knowledge of Surrey’s SCADA system

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to locate, read, and record water consumption for domestic and commercial properties regularly, record water meter readings, repairs, materials used, and meter efficiency, assemble pipes, ensuring proper installation of tees, bends, crosses, valves, and related fittings
  • The candidates should be able to interpret and work with map books and construction drawings, monitor water, sewer, and drainage pump stations, maintain records, logbooks, and activity sheets
  • The candidates should be able to attend to sanitary sewer and drainage backups and perform preliminary work to resolve issues, perform maintenance duties on pumping stations
  • The candidates should be able to shut off and open water services and mains, respond to downed or damaged stop signs and record relevant information
  • The candidates should be able to refuel machines, respond to motor vehicle accidents and erect barricades, clean and secure work areas by shoveling and sweeping
  • The candidates should be able to operate a variety of hand and power tools, respond to trouble calls and inquiries from the public
  • The candidates should be able to assist crew members in performing their duties and drive a City vehicle to and from job sites
