Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have current enrolment in an approved Alberta nursing education program leading to initial entry to practice as a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR) certificate
  • The candidates should have completed the third year of an RN nursing education program and accrued a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program
  • The candidates should currently be in the final year of an after-degree RN nursing education program with a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RN education program
  • The candidates should have successfully completed the second year of an RPN nursing education program with a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice in an approved RPN education program

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practice as a nursing student employed as a UNE
  • The candidates should be able to provide patient-centered care as an unregulated member of the collaborative healthcare team under the supervision of the RN or RPN
  • The candidates should be able to perform nursing activities and require a level of supervision determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE
