Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of post-secondary college diploma
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have university degree in a related discipline Electrical or Computer Engineering Degree or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent
  • The candidates should have registration with, or be working towards PEO status with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • The candidates should have certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)
  • The candidates should have experience with testing, commissioning, and operation of signaling systems
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles, methods, practices, and measurements
  • The candidates should have working knowledge of subway signaling design principles, signaling equipment, associated electronic testing equipment, vital and non-vital systems, and other subway signaling equipment utilized, maintained, and rehabilitated by the section
  • The candidates should have strong knowledge of computers and software applications related to the work, such as Bentley MicroStation CADD, MS Office Word, Excel and Access
  • The candidates should possess sound judgment and well-developed technical, analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal communication, and engineering report writing skills
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Ontario Electric Safety Code, AREMA Communications and Signals Manual of Recommended Practices, CENELEC, TTC standards, CSA standards, and other applicable codes and standards
  • The candidates should be required to obtain Subway Rulebook Certification as an Assistant Designer, Signals

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide engineering support in the preparation, analysis, monitoring, and coordination of new projects or modifications to existing equipment related to the design and testing of TTC’s systems and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the preparation of designs for vital and non-vital circuits in accordance with signal design standards for new and modified signal design systems
  • The candidates should be able to assist with estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures, and drawings for signal design systems
  • The candidates should be able to assist with tender and proposal evaluation, as well as review external submissions related to subway signaling designs
  • The candidates should be able to provide cost comparisons, feasibility studies, and budget estimates for signal design projects
  • The candidates should be able to conduct engineering analyses, evaluations, and tests related to subway signaling systems and assist with testing and commissioning of new systems and investigate operational, communications, or subway signaling problems
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with staff from various TTC departments to ensure consistency and coherence of information on drawings for project components and ensure designs meet TTC’s operational requirements
  • The candidates should be able to provide engineering support and guidance to operational maintenance personnel, supervisory staff, students, or on-site contract employees regarding existing equipment, new installations, or inspection work on a 24-hour basis
  • The candidates should be able to promote a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership in developing and implementing inclusive and accessible policies, programs, and services in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies and participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program
