Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a High School Diploma or General Equivalence Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have 6 years of practical or general experience in the mentioned apprenticeship applicable to the trade or possess a Uniform Local Journeyman/Journeywomen 101R card

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates must be able to work on various shifts and days off – CPKC operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year
  • The candidates should be able to work within strict established safety and work guidelines/rules to complete the job

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed a previous apprenticeship and be able to provide proof of apprenticeship
  • The candidates should possess one of the following: Journeyman Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics Certification, Journeyman Automotive Technician Certification, and Journeyman Electrician Certification
  • The candidates should have strong problem-solving and computer skills
  • The candidates will be required to obtain all CPKC certifications pertaining to specific tasks and assignments

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain, inspect, service, test, and repair all systems on locomotives, mobile equipment, and vehicles used in plant, yard, and road service
  • The candidates should be able to service locomotive cabs, which includes cleaning/washing cab walls, windows, floors, and servicing locomotive toilet compartments and toilets
  • The candidates should be able to make evaluations of parts for reuse, repair, or replacement
  • The candidates should be able to work according to blueprints, schematic drawings, service manuals, and other similar information, and adapt to new methods, processes, materials, and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to perform non-structural welding, such as tacking
  • The candidates should be able to perform adjustments and calibrations to mechanical components
  • The candidates should be able to perform modifications and construct mechanical assemblies
  • The candidates should be able to perform maintenance and low voltage repairs of Locomotive electrical systems
  • The candidates should be able to use various hand and power hand tools
  • The candidates should be able to operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignments
  • The candidates should be able to adapt to new methods, processes, materials, and equipment
