Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have A high school diploma or equivalency such as G.E.D and a completed Certificate as a Journeyperson Heavy Duty (Truck and Transport) Mechanic
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience as a mechanic in a large vehicle maintenance setting

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have at least 4 years of experience in a supervisory role and possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending
  • The candidates should have the ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit and meet and maintain Medical Requirements for Bus operation (equivalent to a Class 2 License Medical)
  • The candidates should have proven, demonstrated supervisory abilities and possessing bookkeeping and record-keeping experience
  • The candidates should have ability to work with a computerized maintenance management information system, communicate effectively through clear concise correspondence and presentations, schedule, track, and document high volumes of work to meet commitments, and establish close working relationships with all levels of staff
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead or work as part of a team and handle confidential matters with tact, flexibility, and attention to detail in a timely manner
  • The candidates should possess effective leadership skills and proven assessment/problem-solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to supervise the maintenance, repair, overhaul, testing, and modifications of the Bus Fleets, including all systems and sub-systems found on the auxiliary equipment
  • The candidates should be able to instruct, organize, supervise, and direct the work of Journeyperson mechanics and maintenance support personnel
  • The candidates should be able to continually monitor the work of all staff for quality, quantity, and completion of work within predetermined time schedules
  • The candidates should be able to organize and maintain preventative maintenance programs to ensure maximum Bus availability for revenue service and ensure sufficient manpower for the normal daily operation of fleet vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to maintain health and safety regulations, communicate and enforce policy, procedures, and programs, promote job efficiency, and exercise cost control
  • The candidates should be able to manage employee relations and issues in the workplace, administer training and selection requirements for employees, and perform other related duties as assigned
