Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have complete a four-year university degree in Accounting and Commerce
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in accounting or auditing
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to set priorities, organize work, and function effectively within deadlines, demonstrate tact, diplomacy, thoroughness, and initiative
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should hold a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and be current with CPA Ontario
- The candidates should have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices
- The candidates should be familiar with Canadian public sector accounting standards established by the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada
- The candidates should have knowledge of municipal finance legislation, including guidelines from the Municipal Finance Officers Association (MFOA)
- The candidates should be knowledgeable about applicable policies, guidelines, procedures, and processes at the corporate, departmental, service, and unit levels
- The candidates should understand the mandates, responsibilities, operations, and inter-relationships of City departments and other stakeholders, such as Business Improvement Associations
- The candidates should have experience using SAP and other computer applications be knowledgeable about applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- The candidates should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to prepare assigned sections of the City’s annual financial statements, the Treasurer’s section of the Annual Report, and the Financial Information Return
- The candidates should be able to carry out various professional accounting assignments to support financial reporting and compliance
- The candidates should be able to provide accounting assistance and advice to City departments, Corporate Finance staff, Revenue and Supply Services, and Business Improvement Associations (BIAs)
- The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with legislation, by-laws, and governance requirements related to financial reporting, planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury, and financial systems
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with clients to develop innovative financial solutions that support business needs and service delivery
- The candidates should be able to deliver excellent financial services to the public and City departments
