Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a High School (Grade 12) graduation
Experience: Candidates should have over one year and up to two years of experience in a regulatory environment or direct experience in construction or design

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work independently or as part of a team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an additional program of over one year and up to two years in Architectural or Engineering Technician or equivalent
  • The candidates should have successfully completed the provincial qualification examinations for: Legal Processes, House, Small Buildings
  • The candidates should possess exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide preliminary plans assessments to determine the completeness and adequacy of permit applications
  • The candidates should be able to perform detailed plans review for permit applications related to the construction of small buildings, housing, and miscellaneous projects
  • The candidates should be able to offer technical assistance to customers and the general public, answering inquiries over the counter or via telephone
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with building inspectors to resolve design, construction issues, and permit application status and perform calculations to determine fees, construction value, and development charges
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with design professionals, contractors, owners, fire prevention officers, and other agencies to ensure the completion of plans review
  • The candidates should be able to update and maintain the Building Department Library and stay informed about the Ontario Building Code and related standards
  • The candidates should be able to update the computer tracking system for application status reviews and permit issuance and perform other similar and related duties
