Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a college diploma recognized technical qualifications specializing in ceramics, craft and design, or fine arts
Experience: Candidates should have at least three years of experience in a ceramic studio and some experience as an assistant technician

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be available and willing to work evenings and weekends
  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory criminal and vulnerable sector screening check dated within the last 30 days if they are new hires or have not performed in this position previously

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess Emergency First Aid with CPR B certification and excellent communication and customer service skills
  • The candidates should have the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification for instructing children’s programs ages 4-12 years
  • The candidates should submit a letter of application addressing their expertise in professional work and community service
  • The candidates should be able to provide a portfolio demonstrating their qualifications during the interview process

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain ceramic studio equipment in good operating order through regular weekly and monthly maintenance, operate all equipment safely and handle ceramic materials according to WHMIS standards
  • The candidates should be able to mix studio glazes and slips and reclaim clay for various programs, operate, fire, and maintain four electric kilns to support all studio programs
  • The candidates should be able to follow all Health and Safety procedures and standards to ensure a safe working environment, provide technical support to users and staff to ensure proper and safe use of equipment
  • The candidates should be able to develop and provide safety training for all ceramic studio users, manage and run the public Drop-in Ceramic Studio program for approximately 12 hours per week
  • The candidates should be able to support instructors and students participating in various clay programs, maintain open communication with the Culture Coordinator regarding any equipment or facility issues that may affect the safe operation of the studio
  • The candidates should be able to maintain all maintenance and safety logs for ceramic ,ensure compliance with all warranty requirements by following operating and maintenance procedures
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety of all users in the ceramic studio and document any accidents or incidents immediately, submitting reports within 24 hours perform other related duties
