Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Grade 12 education or Post-Secondary School Certificate in business or related field
Experience: Candidates should have three years’ progressive work experience in detailed cash handling and balancing, including one year in a customer service work environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should provide an acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) upon the offer of employment
  • The candidates should be able to interact with customers and remain calm when dealing with all customers during high-volume periods

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess thorough knowledge of automated revenue collection systems, such as computerized cash registers and have considerable knowledge of current office management practices, procedures, and systems
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of customer service principles and practices, as well as accounting principles, concepts, and procedures
  • The candidates should have a demonstrated ability to supervise assigned staff and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • The candidates should be capable of providing responsive customer service and conveying confidence and competence and demonstrate the ability to resolve customer problems, exercise good judgment, and make timely decisions in accordance with established policy and procedure
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including effective interpersonal communication skills and possess the ability to understand and comprehend moderately complex revenue collection procedures and make accurate arithmetic calculations

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide responsive and reliable customer service at recreation facilities under the supervision of the Recreation Services Manager or designate and able to reconcile shift revenue collection reports, investigate transaction discrepancies, and make reconciliation adjustments in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to maintain an inventory for admission passes, gift certificates, bulk tickets, and parking permits in accordance with established procedures and able to process activity-space rental and major event contracts for indoor leisure centres, seasonal sport facilities, special use parks, or other recreation facilities, and print rental log-in reports following established policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to investigate and respond to related complaints and enquiries, resolve customer problems, and direct customers to appropriate civic departments in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to supervise and train staff in the performance of customer service duties, cash handling, program registration, and facility booking, and assist with scheduling and monitoring the work performance of assigned staff at assigned recreation facilities
  • The candidates should be able to process general admission, pass sales, program registration, activity-space rental payment, and locker revenue collection, and receive customers entering recreation facilities
  • The candidates should be able to provide program and service information, including schedules, program descriptions, policy explanations, and facility rental information and able to act as a liaison with rental groups and site staff to arrange rental/event booking, including equipment and activity set-up and take-down
  • The candidates should be able to process program registrations, including collection of fees, class transfers, withdrawals, and refunds, and enter program information into, and modify information in, the automated program registration system, and cancel programs as directed and able to process subsidized facility rental for designated sports groups and inform them regularly of the account balance
  • The candidates should be able to provide office support, such as photocopying, filing, and typing for program staff, maintain inventory of office supplies, and ensure office equipment is working properly
