Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have a bachelor of Social Work or equivalent graduate degree preferred; relevant undergraduate degrees will be considered
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 3 years of experience in emergency/community mental health
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have certification or registration in a regulatory body in good standing and adhere to all standards of practice as per the College (or the ability to obtain this within 6 months of hire)
- The candidate should be certified in the following safety courses preferred: Crisis Intervention (i.e. NVCI, Safety Care, CPI, or Safe Management), First Aid and CPR, and Suicide Prevention (ASIST), Mental Health First Aid
- The candidate should demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., the Mental Health Act)
- The candidate should possess excellent organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills
- The candidate should exhibit strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
- The candidate should demonstrate sound judgment, good observation and client assessment skills, tact, and empathy
- The candidate should maintain a commitment to continued professional development as required by the employer
- The candidate should have demonstrated knowledge of computer applications required for electronic documentation
- The candidate should provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or verification that they are unable to be vaccinated
- The candidate should have access to a reliable personal vehicle
- The candidate should possess a current valid class ‘G’ driver’s license
- The candidate should undergo a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check)
- The candidate should have actual life experience and/or lived experience with mental illness or addictions is an asset
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to respond to individuals in non-medical crisis situations in person, over the phone, or through OTN or in the community. Clients may be self-referred or referred by other community organizations (i.e., ACCESS Line, NHS Emergency Department/PERT, COAST, Urgent Care, Safe Beds, family physicians, etc.)
- The candidates should be able to complete psycho-social and safety assessments on individuals accessing program services, with a working knowledge of components of the Mental Status Exam required
- The candidates should be able to identify areas of need and respond by developing or reviewing a care plan, which may include providing short-term crisis counseling and treatment, case management, connection with appropriate community services, and follow-up
- The candidates should be able to provide clinical intervention with a sound knowledge of crisis intervention, recovery-based practice, severe and persistent mental illness and substance use issues, clinical therapeutic interventions, community resources and services, and safety assessment tools
- The candidates should be able to conduct cross-service/sector linkages and act as a liaison by consulting with family members and other professionals, in direct collaboration and with the consent of the individual being served
- The candidates should be able to foster and promote positive change and independence in those individuals served by the program
- The candidates should be able to promote good public relations and healthy community partnerships and alliances
- The candidates should ensure accurate and timely reports, data entry, and documentation in relevant systems (i.e., CRMS)
