Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or Civil Engineering Technician Certificate or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the construction inspection industry, and/or construction supervision

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work outdoors in a field setting on a year-round basis
  • The candidates should be able to work overtime hours
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the position, such as lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, completing construction site inspections, sitting, and being in confined spaces
  • The candidates should be able to travel throughout the province on overnight and extended trips

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience which is relevant to water and sewer construction including; design, survey, contract preparation and quality/quantity control
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver’s Licence or similar from another jurisdiction and should provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • The candidates should have experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents, as well as applying material testing procedures
  • The candidates should have knowledge of current construction methodology, specifications, civil engineering principles, and methods applicable to municipal water & sewer infrastructure
  • The candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders and should have the ability to use AutoCAD and GPS/GIS and instrumentation
  • The candidates should have excellent verbal communication skills to negotiate, build consensus, resolve conflicts, and communicate technical information tactfully
  • The candidates should have strong written communication skills to prepare field inspection reports, construction meeting minutes, and field notes
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to expedite decisions
  • The candidates should have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple, conflicting deadlines under pressure and prioritize work/tasks to meet overall goals and objectives
  • The candidates should have strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as knowledge of Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act Regulations

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform day-to-day inspection and layout of various water and sewer construction contracts under the direct supervision of Construction Superintendents
  • The candidates should be able to ensure quality assurance and control construction activities to confirm projects are completed in compliance with standard construction specifications, using approved material and methodology
  • The candidates should be able to interpret plans and specifications to provide project layout in the field for construction contractors
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with construction superintendent and stakeholders, schedule and chair regular construction meetings, monitor progress, and report material quantities
  • The candidates should be able to prepare construction reports and meeting minutes and should be able to oversee commissioning of completed work
  • The candidates should be able to provide collected GPS data and daily field records to assist in the development of accurate “as-built” drawings
