Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Inuktut, English, or French; fluency in Inuktitut Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school diploma along with a Food Safe Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of cooking experience in a large facility setting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience working in a health care institution or equivalent setting
  • The candidates should have experience working in a hotel or other tourism food service establishment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to pass a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check (Highly Sensitive Position)
  • The candidates should be fluent in Inuktut, English, or French; fluency in Inuktitut and knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and Inuktut
  • The candidates should have experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare all foods to be served to patients and at the cafeteria, using food-safe practices and ensuring accuracy of patient trays
  • The candidates should be able to be highly familiar with existing therapeutic diet orders and allergen risks to ensure patient safety
  • The candidates should be able to procure country food from reputable suppliers on behalf of the food services department
  • The candidates should be able to establish a rapport with local suppliers of country foods, including hunters, fishers, and commercially available country foods
  • The candidates should be able to maintain an inventory of country food in the country food processing room and ensure appropriate food safety handling
  • The candidates should be able to educate and train staff on the preparation of foods in a traditional manner, adhering to food safety standards
  • The candidates should be able to consult with the food services team on patient preferences and feedback to continuously improve the nutrition and dining experience of the clients within the hospital
  • The candidates should be able to deliver food to patients during times of staff shortages, ensuring efficient service delivery
