Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Candidates should have 1 season of work experience as a National Lifeguard at Waterfront

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • The candidates should have completed Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST) or have the ability to obtain it within 1 month of the date of hire

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold current certifications as Lifesaving Society Swim Instructors, Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructors, and Lifesaving Society Emergency First Aid Instructors
  • The candidates should possess a current Lifesaving Society Airway Management and current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool certification certification
  • The candidates should possess High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification, and QUEST 2 Certification is considered beneficial
  • The candidates should have exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • The candidates should also hold the current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Waterfront certification
  • The candidates should possess a current Fleet Training Permit or have the ability to obtain it within 1 month of the date of hire
  • The candidates should have a current Valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) or have the ability to obtain it within 1 month of the date of hire

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Recreation Programmer/Recreation Coordinator, the candidates should be able to plan, organize, and implement a high-quality program that is stimulating and enjoyable for all participants
  • The candidates should be able to provide supervision, guidance, and coaching to staff and volunteers, ensuring the safety and well-being of registered participants at all times
  • The candidates should be able to provide direction to Instructors/Lifeguards/Aquatic Attendants/Volunteers and supervise, coach, and evaluate staff
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the promotion of programs and develop, deliver, and document staff training and meetings
  • The candidates should be able to plan, organize, and deliver high-quality safe and stimulating programs for all levels of participants
  • The candidates should be able to ensure staff are following program plans and legislative requirements and maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation
  • The candidates should be able to handle program feedback in a professional manner by providing exceptional customer service and complete administrative duties in a timely manner, including staff and program schedules, payroll, reports, and incident/accident reports
  • The candidates should be able to monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts, and restock as needed and report all concerns, accidents, and incidents to the immediate supervisor for follow-up and take appropriate action
  • The candidates should be able to maintain an understanding of department programs and services
  • The candidates should be able to understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures, and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff
  • The candidates should be able to attend meetings/training as required, perform other duties as assigned, and provide support as a Lifeguard/Instructor
