Diesel Mechanic/Apprentice

The candidate will be a member of a team working in a high production environment performing preventative and corrective maintenance to Locomotives. The candidates will be determined by experience and current shop mix.

Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as high School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
Experience: Candidates need an experience of 6 years practical or general experience in mentioned apprenticeship applicable to the trade or possess a Uniform Local Journeyman/Journey women 101R card
Background Investigation: Criminal history check, Reference check and Education verification
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should be completely vaccinated in accordance to COVID-19 guidelines. The candidates also need to confirm with their vaccination certificates
- The candidate should be able to fulfill all health related requirements
- The candidates must have completed previous apprenticeship and ability to provide proof of apprenticeship
- The candidates will be preferred who posses Journeyman Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanics Certification, Journeyman Automotive Technician Certification, and Journeyman Electrician Certification
- The candidate should have strong problem solving and computer skills
- The candidate must be able to work within strict established safety and work guidelines/rules to complete job
- The candidate will be required to obtain all CP certification pertaining to specific tasks and assignments
- The candidate should be able to operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; must be able to work on various shifts and days off
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to maintain, inspect, service, test and repairs all systems on locomotives, mobile equipment and vehicles used in plant, yard and road service
- The candidate should be able to service locomotive cabs which include cleaning/washing cab walls, windows, floors and servicing of locomotive toilets compartment and toilets
- The candidate should be able to make the evaluation of parts for reuse, repair or replacement
- The candidate should be able to work on blueprints, schematic drawings, service manuals and other information.
- The candidate should be able to adapt to new methods, processes, material and equipment
- The candidate should be able to perform non-structural welding, (i.e. Tacking)
- The candidate should be able to perform adjustment and calibration to mechanical components
- The candidate should be able to perform modification and construct mechanical assemblies
- The candidate should be able to perform maintenance and low voltage repairs of Locomotive electrical systems
- The candidate should be able to use various hand and power hand tools
- The candidate should be able to operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist in assignments
- The candidate should be able to adapt to new methods, processes, material and equipment.
