With a focus on play-based learning and individualized attention, Little Owl Learning Centre offers comprehensive childcare programs for children of all ages, including infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Salary: $20.00 to $28.64 hourly (To be negotiated) for 30 to 40 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: Medicine Hat, AB
Shifts: Day
Work setting: Child care centre, urban area, nursery school, kindergarten, before and after school programs, and day care centre or nursery school
Supervision: 3-4 people

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Experience with special needs children: children who are deaf or hard of hearing, children with a physical disability, children with behavioural issues, and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or attention deficit disorder (ADD)
Security and safety: Criminal record check, child welfare check, and vulnerable sector check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be non-smokers and demonstrate attention to detail
  • The candidates should be comfortable with a combination of sitting, standing, and walking, and be able to bend, crouch, and kneel as necessary

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should exhibit punctuality and demonstrate dependability
  • The candidates should possess efficient interpersonal skills and excel in oral communication
  • The candidates should have strong written communication abilities and show flexibility in their approach
  • The candidates should exhibit interpersonal awareness and be reliable
  • The candidates should be effective team players and adhere to values and ethics

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers with care and attention to their needs, ensuring their well-being
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, providing enriching experiences
  • The candidates should be able to engage children in storytelling sessions, stimulating their imagination and language skills
  • The candidates should be able to supervise staff, trainees, or volunteers, providing guidance and support to ensure quality childcare
  • The candidates should be able to assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, contributing to their growth and learning
  • The candidates should be able to lead activities such as telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest, fostering their curiosity and exploration
  • The candidates should be able to assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records of children’s progress and activities, documenting their development
  • The candidates should be able to encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity, fostering their self-expression and confidence
  • The candidates should be able to engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, and preparing crafts, promoting their enjoyment and participation
  • The candidates should be able to guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits, promoting independence and self-care skills
  • The candidates should be able to prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods, ensuring a comfortable and organized environment for children
  • The candidates should have knowledge of licensing regulations governing childcare programs, ensuring compliance with legal requirements
  • The candidates should be able to establish guidelines for behavior and enforce them consistently, promoting a safe and respectful environment for children
  • The candidates should be able to attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children, contributing to the team’s efforts to provide quality childcare
  • The candidates should be able to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children, promoting continuity of care and support
  • The candidates should be able to plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children, prioritizing their safety and comfort
  • The candidates should be able to plan and organize activities for school-age children in childcare programs before and after regular school hours, providing engaging experiences
  • The candidates should be able to supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants, ensuring effective teamwork and support
