Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have bachelor’s Degree in  Accounting, Commerce, Business or related field with a specialization in accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have minimum three years related financial and administrative experience required

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a minimum of two years’ experience in financial management and reporting of external research grants
  • The candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of the Guide to Financial Management (GTFM)
  • The candidates should possess excellent working knowledge of the University’s Financial Information System (FIS) or a similar program
  • The candidates should have experience working with budget information and analysis, including reporting, compiling, and reconciling financial information
  • The candidates should demonstrate computer proficiency in MS Office applications with expert knowledge in Excel and intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • The candidates should have a strong ability to work under pressure and handle a variety of tasks such as coordinating multiple processes and dealing with a large number of accounts with accuracy and attention to detail
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong analytical ability, financial acuity, and a proven ability to think critically
  • The candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated customer service orientation in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders at all levels
  • The candidates should demonstrate initiative and flexibility in dealing with multiple duties
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy, and maintain confidentiality
  • The candidates should have the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the interdisciplinary science department of CPS, which comprises Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences, and Astronomy
  • The candidates should be able to engage in vibrant research labs exploring various scientific questions, including those related to cell programming, protein function, materials development, climate change, natural hazards, and learning approaches to these challenges
  • The candidates should be able to participate in undergraduate programs offered by CPS in Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences, and Astronomy, as well as interdisciplinary specializations in Biological Chemistry, Biomedical Physics, and Environmental Geoscience
  • The candidates should be able to access state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, engage in cutting-edge research projects, and pursue internships at technology companies across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
  • The candidates should be able to experience a wide array of opportunities within CPS, ranging from mapping in the Andes to simulating protein folding to building a laser trap
  • The candidates should be able to work under the supervision of 26 full-time faculty members, including award-winning educators and researchers, who oversee a total of 90 graduate students and 16 postdocs in CPS research labs
  • The candidates should be able to handle financial and administrative duties as the Financial and Administrative Coordinator, reporting to the Manager, Finance and Operations, to ensure efficient departmental operation and compliance with policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to assist CPS Principal Investigators (PIs) with managing research funds portfolios, processing financial transactions, performing reconciliations, and responding to funding inquiries
  • The candidates should be able to support data collection and report preparation while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to fulfill administrative responsibilities, including acting as the first point of contact for the department, maintaining office equipment and supplies, and coordinating space allocation and renovations
  • The candidates should be able to administer accounts for restricted funds, ensuring compliance with university and sponsor’s policies
  • The candidates should be able to advise on the preparation of budget proposals, ensuring alignment with university and sponsor’s policies
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with internal and external contacts to facilitate purchasing and/or procurement processes
  • The candidates should be able to apply the University Guide to Financial Management and other relevant policies, agency, and regulatory requirements
  • The candidates should be able to apply generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks
  • The candidates should be able to maintain security and confidentiality of information.
  • The candidates should be able to generate standard financial reports
  • The candidates should be able to stay well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
