Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have 1 year of customer service experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of lifting food, supplies, and equipment up to 46 lbs and must be able to push or pull meal carts up to 250 lbs
  • The candidates should be able to walk and stand on their feet for the duration of their shift

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications
  • The candidates should be able to attend 1-2 days of Patient Food Services new employee orientation
  • The candidates should have 1 year of food service experience and experience in a hospital or long-term care environment
  • The candidates should have experience with inventory management, including receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates, and minimizing waste while utilizing “First In – First Out” procedures
  • The candidates should have experience with Commercial Food Service Equipment and Food Safe Certification or equivalent and WHMIS training

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy and work under pressure in high-stress situations
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills and initiative and work as an effective, professional team member
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate a patient-first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies
  • The candidates should be able to perform basic math functions to measure out food portions
  • The candidates should be able to perform a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to package and portion food items, prepare food according to set guidelines and menus, serve meals to patients and customers, and clean and sanitize equipment, dishes, tables, and serving areas
