Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years’ recent clerical and accounting experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with quality performance
- The candidate should have the ability to identify inefficiencies and continuously improve processes and procedures
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have successfully , supplemented by a minimum of two introductory accounting courses equivalent to current first-year courses at a recognized post-secondary institution
- The candidate should have an equivalent combination of education and experience and possess effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- The candidate should have a good knowledge of accounting, including journals, ledgers, trial balance, and accounting transactions
- The candidate should have a good working knowledge of financial software and PC applications, including Excel and Word
- The candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills to represent the City in a professional and courteous manner
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to process and reconcile monthly utility billings for City Facilities and reconcile monthly bank statements for the City’s complex bank accounts
- The candidates should be able to process and review employee expense claims in accordance with the City’s policies
- The candidates should be able to process month-end journal entries and accruals, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- The candidates should be able to confirm tax assessment of accounts payable invoices and ensure proper documentation
- The candidates should be able to reconcile and prepare corporate tax filings for both Federal and Provincial authorities
- The candidates should be able to prepare and reconcile quarterly and year-end working papers, ensuring financial accuracy
- The candidates should be able to assist in budget preparation, contributing to the development of financial plans
- The candidates should be able to process payments as assigned, ensuring timely and accurate disbursements
- The candidates should be able to make recommendations for improvements in accounting processes and procedures
- The candidates should be able to perform other job-related duties as assigned, ensuring the smooth operation of the department
