Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have successful completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the nursing field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared for regular physical exertion involving handling, moving, pushing, or pulling objects weighing between 10 – 15 lbs. Occasionally, they may be required to support, lift, or move patients/objects up to 30 lbs
  • The candidates should expect to work regularly in awkward cramped positions (bending/kneeling/stretching) and be constantly standing and moving about
  • The candidates should be involved in pushing and pulling objects using light to medium forces, as well as standing and walking
  • The candidates should have visual concentration for tasks such as giving medications, reading orders/referrals, reviewing patients’ charts/documents, and observing and treating patients and these tasks are combined with time pressures and deadlines

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold current licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL)
  • The candidates should possess current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • The candidates should know that preference will be given to candidates with gerontology experience
  • The candidates should have knowledge of seniors’ issues and support best practices in gerontological care
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to deal effectively with end-of-life issues and demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The candidates should exhibit the ability to maintain effective working relationships and demonstrate initiative and the ability to work independently
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide quality nursing care to residents by assisting in their daily living activities, offering personal care, and promoting independent living
  • The candidates should be able to meet the resident’s physical, social, and spiritual needs through partnerships with the resident, the resident’s family, and other members of the inter professional team
  • The candidates should be able to accountable for the planning and supervision of care within their scope of practice, ensuring the well-being of residents
  • The candidates should be able to provide support and direction to Personal Care Attendants, monitoring resident outcomes, and intervening if necessary
  • The candidates should be able to reassess and adjust the plan of care or resident assignment as needed, collaborating with the Registered Nurse for consultation and guidance
