It provides law enforcement, crime prevention, and community policing services to residents. It plays a critical role in safeguarding the well-being of Winnipeg’s residents and promoting a sense of security in the community. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have University Degree in Computer Science (or related field), or College Diploma in Business Information Technology (or related field) with demonstrated equivalent amount of experience
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 3 years progressive, significant and related experience in Service Desk operations responding to computer software and hardware related issues, incidents and service requests within the last 5 years

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and work plans with minimal supervision
  • The candidates should be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • The candidates should be minimum 18 years of age
  • The candidates should have no involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)
  • The candidates should have no criminal record for which a Pardon has not been granted They should have the ability to pass a level 3 Winnipeg Police Service security check
  • The candidates should obtain and maintain Distributed Regional Authority designation within National Police Service and RCMP
  • The candidates should have the ability to successfully complete additional training as defined by the Service

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Grade 12 Diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification and should have a minimum of 2 years progressive, significant, and related experience in providing computer systems and/or application support within the last 5 years
  • The candidates should demonstrate intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Web Browser applications and have technology skills in both computer hardware and software, including current versions of Microsoft Windows
  • The candidates should have the ability to learn the use of Service Desk-related and client device configuration software platforms, and to install and perform basic troubleshooting of hardware systems including, but not limited to laptops, printers, workstations, monitors, input devices, and storage devices for purposes of testing, demonstration, and product delivery
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot, triage, and resolve software and hardware issues and demonstrate the ability to gather data to produce a hypothesis and perform root cause analysis and should possess and maintain a valid Class 5.0 Driver’s License
  • The candidates should have the ability to use Service Desk tools to perform tasks related to user account management, work order tracking, and computer asset management systems and should be capable of learning ITSD processes and ITIL concepts
  • The candidates should possess organizational skills and the ability to multitask, work under pressure, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team atmosphere and should be able to communicate and provide technical support effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing by email
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to problem solve within a structured framework and should have the ability to provide recommendations to ITSD management on areas needing improvement in support processes
  • The candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological, and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide Incident and Problem Management services within the support model provided within the ITSD Service Portfolio
  • The candidates should be able to deliver technical support services and/or escalate tasks to other specific technical staff as required for WPS-related systems, applications, infrastructure, and computer environments
  • The candidates should be able to investigate and collect information, coordinate resolutions, and perform recovery actions for assigned Incidents and Problems
  • The candidates should be able to perform Incident and Service Request Management tasks including detection and recording, prioritization, classification, investigation and diagnosis, incident closure, incident ownership, monitoring, tracking, and communication, and, where possible, resolution and recovery of IT-related WPS incidents and events
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the Problem Management process with prioritization, investigation and diagnosis, creating and documenting workarounds and Known Error records
  • The candidates should be able to analyze and respond, up to a second level of technical support, to IT events captured at the Service Desk or through monitoring
  • The candidates should be able to perform identification, logging, and categorization of WPS systems-related problems, changes, and undocumented support
  • The candidates should be able to ensure high quality of IT asset records, documentation, and communication of activities revolving around the Service Desk in line with guidelines provided and within the scope established by the supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to execute purchasing activities on approved items as determined by the supervisor and able to perform Service Desk and ITSD operational and project tasks as required
