It provides policing services, crime prevention, and community outreach programs. As a vital component of Winnipeg’s governance, WPS ensures the protection of citizens and maintains law and order. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Grade 12 Diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have Police-related work or volunteer experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be 18 years of age
  • The candidates should have no involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Full Driver’s License and have demonstrated acceptable attendance and job performance relevant to this position
  • The candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and healthy work environment that supports physical, psychological, and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, including communication (both oral and written) and demonstrate the ability to problem-solve, using a variety of interpersonal skills, including initiative, creativity, organizational, and self-direction. Post-secondary education is required
  • The candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the community through volunteer experience and have a stable work history involving a position of leadership, responsibility, and trust
  • The candidates should have work and/or volunteer experience involving significant interaction with the public and have knowledge of a second language or culture
  • The candidates should possess applied knowledge of computers and basic keyboard skills and have no criminal record for which a Pardon has not been granted. They must have the ability to successfully complete the Winnipeg Police Service – Physical Abilities Test (WPS-PAT)
  • The candidates should obtain a Class 4 Full Driver’s License before the Offer of Employment and successfully complete a Standard First Aid Certificate before the Offer of Employment
  • The candidates should successfully complete a Level C Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate before the Offer of Employment and successfully complete a pre-employment medical examination and psychological assessment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to promote positive public relations through community involvement, including crime and drug prevention strategies, to foster trust and cooperation within the community
  • The candidate should be able to conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, using appropriate investigative techniques and procedures
  • The candidate should be able to patrol assigned areas and monitor activities to protect people and property, identifying and responding to potential threats or criminal activity
  • The candidate should be able to enforce federal, provincial, and municipal statutes as required, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • The candidate should be able to complete crime analysis, identify criminal activity trends, and develop solutions or projects in trend areas to prevent and address criminal activity effectively
  • The candidate should be able to prepare and provide evidence in court matters, including testimony and documentation, to support legal proceedings and ensure the prosecution of offenders
  • The candidate should be able to perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with community events, providing support to other law enforcement agencies, and participating in training and professional development activities
