City of Calgary’s Parks and Open Spaces department is responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance of parks, natural areas, and green spaces within the city. It ensures the preservation of Calgary’s natural beauty while providing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. Positioned as a guardian of the environment, it focuses on sustainability and biodiversity conservation in urban landscapes. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a completed 2 year diploma in Asset Management, Structural Engineering, Business Administration, Geographic Information Systems or a related field
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in areas such as program management, asset inspection and management and geographic information systems

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a degree in Asset Management, Structural Engineering, Business Administration, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field, and at least 3 years of experience in areas such as program management, asset inspection and management, and geographic information systems
  • The candidates should have the ability to obtain a Canadian Playground Safety Institute Certificate within 6 months from the hire date and demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and GIS technology
  • The candidates should have experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining infrastructure asset management plans, as well as proficiency in project management methodologies and tools
  • The candidates should have experience with infrastructure asset lifecycle management, including inspections, maintenance scheduling, and repair coordination and possess a working knowledge of relevant parks infrastructure codes and regulations
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to organize, track, and analyze infrastructure asset data accurately and efficiently and have the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with various teams
  • The candidates should have the capacity to coordinate and drive the successful development and implementation of asset management strategies and demonstrate the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • The candidates should have teamwork and collaboration, proven problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a customer-centric approach, and an understanding of business and political landscapes

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure the proper coordination of the review, acquisition, inspection, and life-cycling of over 55,000 above-ground, hard landscape assets in public parks, including over 1,100 playgrounds
  • The candidates should be able to manage the process by overseeing and coordinating the review and approval of infrastructure asset acquisition proposals, ensuring compliance, budgetary constraints, and safety regulatory requirements
  • The candidates should be able to assess potential risks, present recommendations, coordinate meetings, and complete necessary documentation related to asset management and able to act as a primary point of contact for Development Circulations and Asset Acquisition Inspections with the Development and Capital team
  • The candidates should be able to facilitate the development and implementation of inspection protocols and procedures for infrastructure assets and able to develop and implement training programs and schedules for asset inspectors, ensuring alignment with safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards
  • The candidates should be able to act as a point of contact for external regulators regarding infrastructure asset management and able to conduct regular assessments of infrastructure asset conditions using standardized rating systems and methodologies
  • The candidates should be able to conduct strategic planning for asset management initiatives and provide guidance and recommendations and able to plan, organize, and execute communication events and outreach initiatives to engage with the community and interested parties affected by infrastructure projects
  • The candidates should be able to prepare summary reports detailing the status, performance, and condition ratings of assets
  • The candidates should be able to develop visually engaging presentations to communicate recommendations for senior management and Committees of Council
