Toronto Transit Commission, Department of Operations Training – Bus Training Centre based in Toronto, ON is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Instructor. The Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Department of Operations Training – Bus Training Centre is dedicated to ensuring the proficiency and safety of bus operators within the TTC network. The Bus Training Centre prepares operators to handle various challenges and emergencies effectively. The department plays a critical role in maintaining the TTC’s reputation for reliable and efficient public transportation services in Toronto. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a qualified Bus Operator

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to create and deliver presentations in various formats
  • The candidates should have the ability to train and instruct individuals and/or groups
  • The candidates should demonstrate the capability to communicate in a variety of mediums
  • The candidates should understand and apply administrative policies, processes, and procedures
  • The candidates should be proficient in using office technology, software, and applications
  • The candidates should have knowledge of and be able to apply relevant laws and regulations
  • The candidates should have or be able to obtain an Adult Training Certificate at a university/community college in Training and Development, or the equivalent within 3 years
  • The candidates should have a minimum of 3 years Divisional Trainer or Supervisory experience in a transportation/public transit environment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of operating principles and practices associated with revenue vehicles, related equipment, and facilities combined with directly related work experience in a bus transportation environment
  • The candidates must possess a valid B/CZ license for the past 3 years with “0” Demerit Points at the time of running abstract and clear CVOR with no convictions for the previous 5 years
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of pertinent policies, government legislation regarding the operation of commercial vehicles, as well as encompassed training in relation to qualifying employees to a higher-class license
  • The candidates should have thorough knowledge of, and the ability to apply adult education principles, instruction, assessment, testing and evaluation techniques, research methods, and program design and development methodologies
  • The candidates should have the ability to effectively deliver a comprehensive range of training programs to diverse groups in the classroom, at actual work locations, to large and small groups, and on a one-on-one basis, as well as the ability to read, comprehend and explain complex concepts, technical information, and maintenance procedures
  • The candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, group facilitation, coaching, and leadership skills
  • The candidates should participate and pass the MTO Fleet Driver Certification program

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to deliver and evaluate transportation-related training programs to employees, contractors, consultants, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to work with others to develop new programs and to review and update existing programs
  • The candidates should be able to educate staff through training programs and monitor and evaluate performance
  • The candidates should be able to provide assistance or help in the coordination, development, or delivery of the Section’s initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to create and update materials and resources, store and disseminate them appropriately
  • The candidates should be able to plan, schedule, facilitate, and/or organize a program, event, or tasks needed to achieve an outcome
  • The candidates should be able to review, analyze submissions, documents, qualifications, or other materials, and approve or deny requests
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner that complies with regulations, policies, and organizational procedures
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the TTC’s Customer Service Ambassador Program
  • The candidates should be able to promote a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. They should provide leadership in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible policies, programs, and/or services for employees and customers in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies
