Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 10 and Current Fitness Certification from a recognized fitness certification organization (or equivalent as deemed acceptable by management)
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 6 months of experience or equivalent apprenticeship
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should hold a Fitness Instructor certificate from a recognized organization such as canfitpro, YM-YWCA, Ontario Fitness Council, or other recognized certification
- The candidates should possess current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
- The candidates should have completed AODA Customer Service/IASR Training
- The candidates should be familiar with Corporate and Departmental policies, guidelines, and directives
- The candidates should have knowledge of City of Ottawa emergency response procedures
- The candidates should have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- The candidates should possess the knowledge base, skills, and training necessary to lead a variety of fitness classes
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to speak clearly and actively listen, as well as maintain a fun and safe environment
- The candidates should have an understanding of the community fitness environment and needs, and be flexible, creative, organized, and reliable
- The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, along with being open to change and innovation
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide instruction on a wide variety of group fitness and fitness-related classes for identified programs at the City of Ottawa, in accordance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures, rules, and regulations
- The candidates should be able to contribute to building a healthy, inclusive, and vibrant city by ensuring that communities, residents, and visitors have access to recreation and cultural places, programs, events, and services
- The candidates should be able to oversee buildings and facilities management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities
