Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Completion of High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have 2 to 4 years of related experience in business or marketing communications, web copywriting, technical communication, library or information sciences, or journalism, combined with industry experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of thriving in a challenging and collaborative work environment with changing priorities, effectively coordinating the work of others, and meeting deadlines consistently
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage their workload effectively, prioritize tasks, and delegate where possible to ensure the timely completion of projects and tasks, especially in high-pressure situations

  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of relevant best practices, including user experience and search engine optimization, to maximize content impact and visibility
  • The candidates should have a considerable understanding of accessibility issues and guidelines, such as WCAG, ensuring content accessibility for all user
  • The candidates should be skilled in creating a variety of content styles and genres, allowing adaptation of writing style to different contexts and audiences
  • The candidates should possess strong problem-solving abilities, as well as strong editorial and writing skills, to address challenges effectively and produce high-quality content
  • The candidates should possess the ability to understand content in the context of various business models, enabling them to tailor content to specific industry needs and objectives
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to synthesize complex or technical information into clear, concise, and compelling content that is easily understandable by the target audience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to research, write, edit, and publish information and instructive copy for the City and Park Board, ensuring accuracy, relevance, web material provided by decentralized staff, and provide training to ensure consistency and quality across all content and alignment with City standards and objectives
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that published web content is timely, accurate, informative, and engaging, consistent with City standards, and meets the needs of the target audience and evaluate the effectiveness of web content,  recommend changes and improvements, and maintain editing and approval processes and standards to uphold quality
  • The candidates should be able to provide web strategy and best practices counsel to internal and external stakeholders, participating in consultations with key stakeholders to optimize content delivery and user experience
  • The candidates should be able to establish and maintain standards and taxonomies for the website, recommending changes and improvements to enhance usability and user experience
  • The candidates should be able to identify and implement audience-specific content solutions, ensuring content is optimized for search engines to improve discoverability
  • The candidates should be able to research and source additional tools and applications to enhance the display of information on external websites, contributing to continuous improvement and innovation
  • The candidates should be able to support Digital Marketing activities for projects and initiatives, including ideation, concept exploration, and tool management, to effectively promote City initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to follow the established Vancouver Design Style Guide when creating and implementing content, ensuring consistency and alignment with City branding
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to common usability and user experience best practices to ensure clean, concise, easy-to-understand, and user-friendly interactions for citizens using City of Vancouver digital services
  • The candidates should be able to approach each project and challenge with a “Digital First” mindset, providing recommendations and solutions to best support the user journey and enhance the digital experience for users
