City of Edmonton’s Parks and Roads Services department oversees the maintenance and development of public parks and road infrastructure. It ensures the upkeep of green spaces, roads, and streetscapes. It works to enhance the livability and accessibility of the city through efficient road management and the creation of vibrant park spaces for community enjoyment and environmental sustainability. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as completion of the 10th school grade
Experience: Candidates should have experience in Roadway Maintenance work

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the position class

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess considerable knowledge of methods, practices, and rules of the safe operation of the assigned equipment
  • The candidates should have good knowledge of the methods and practices used in operating and caring for equipment
  • The candidates should possess the ability and knowledge to complete an equipment pre-trip inspection on correlating equipment required for the task
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the daily maintenance required on the equipment and have knowledge of the PARS Operating Procedures
  • The candidates should hold an Emergency First Aid Certificate and exhibit exemplary customer service skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work and make decisions in an independent manner and be adaptable to changing priorities, whether because of managerial direction or weather dependency
  • The candidates should possess a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position
  • The candidates should demonstrate the foundational competencies, key behaviors, and attributes of the City’s six leadership competencies: Courage, Inclusivity, Values-Based Influencer, Collaborative Networker, Systems Thinker, and Creative Innovator

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to travel to various job sites in relation to a predetermined schedule and able to participate in on-site field condition review and hazard assessments
  • The candidates should be able to set up equipment and traffic control as directed by field leadership and able to disassemble or remove damaged or deteriorated assets as needed
  • The candidates should be able to participate in field training and able to keep the operational area tidy during work and clean up at the end of the task
  • The candidates should be able to handle loading, transport, and unloading of materials and tools and have the physical strength and agility to perform the work of the class
  • The candidates should be able to be proficient in the proper operation and daily maintenance of all equipment included in the operation of their task
  • The candidates should be able to have the ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a Class 5 license and have the ability to obtain a city driving permit C
  • The candidates should be able to prepare simple work records such as Vehicle Pre Trip Inspections, Field Level Hazard Assessments, and Order Resource forms
  • The candidates should be able to promptly report any near miss or safety incidents
