Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Secondary school graduation
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years’ administrative support or clerical experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates employed by the BC Public Service must reside in BC at the time of employment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • The candidates should have strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, database applications, and publication software
  • The candidates should exhibit excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills and possess excellent proofreading skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate with tact, diplomacy, and discretion, particularly regarding confidential matters
  • The candidates should demonstrate good judgment, problem-solving abilities, and strong initiative
  • The candidates should have a certificate, diploma, or other post-secondary education in legal, office, business, public administration or a relevant discipline
  • The candidates should have experience in proofreading and checking the accuracy of documents prepared by other professionals
  • The candidates should have at least one year of experience in a formal legal office environment
  • The candidates should be experienced in working in a high-volume, deadline-oriented environment
  • The candidates should have experience dealing with competing demands and shifting priorities
  • The candidates should be prepared to undergo a Criminal Record Check (CRC)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist in managing assigned counsels’ practices and other Office managers’ programs
  • The candidates should be able to exercise independent judgment on legislative, legal, and administrative matters to achieve goals and desired outcomes
  • The candidates should be able to review and draft office, legislative, and legal documentation independently or under supervision
  • The candidates should be able to act as the first point of contact for the Chief Legislative Counsel and maintain records and files related to office activities
  • The candidates should be able to manage the Chief Legislative Counsel’s calendar, including scheduling meetings, booking rooms, and preparing meeting materials
  • The candidates should be able to brief the Chief Legislative Counsel on meeting topics, issues, and background information
  • The candidates should be able to manage correspondence on behalf of the Chief Legislative Counsel and other Office managers
  • The candidates should be able to provide backup assistance for the Legislative Program or Office Assistant
  • The candidates should be able to offer administrative and support services to the Chief Legislative Counsel and other Office managers
  • The candidates should be able to proofread various documents according to office style guidelines, identifying errors, and escalating complex matters to department managers
