The Manitoba Government’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure based in Steinbach, MB is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Maintenance worker. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have experience operating light and/or heavy duty equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing all of the required job duties, including lifting/carrying 0-25kg, walking on rough terrain, sitting and standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating vehicles, and wearing personal equipment
  • The candidates should respond to work within 30 minutes of a call

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and be able to upgrade to Class 3 with air brake endorsement within 6 months
  • The candidates should have experience performing manual duties, operating hand and power tools, pirating light and/or heavy-duty equipment and experience servicing and/or making minor repairs to vehicles and equipment
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health & Risk Management
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently, work as part of a team, Strong interpersonal communication skills and have effective communication skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Area Works Supervisor and receive lead hand direction from the Assistant Works Supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to operate and maintain maintenance equipment, small hand and power tools, and perform physical maintenance work associated with highway maintenance activities
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety of workers and the traveling public while maintaining public infrastructure
