          The City of Nanaimo is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Municipal Services Inspector. The City of Nanaimo is an urban center that is growing and livable, located between the mountains and the ocean on the east coast of Vancouver Island. It still maintains its historic charm. It is a short ferry trip away from Metro Vancouver and a 90-minute drive from Victoria. Vancouver Island University is located in Nanaimo, and it is rich in parks, recreational, cultural, and social amenities. The City of Nanaimo is seeking a temporary full-time Municipal Services Inspector. Under the general direction of the Project Manager, the incumbent inspects, monitors, administers, and approves the construction of Engineering projects, subdivision and building developments, private utility installations, and other civil construction works within City of Nanaimo roads and rights-of-ways. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a diploma in a specialty such as engineering, surveying, or construction from a recognized technical institute
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in survey, construction, design, and inspection of civil works, with an emphasis on construction and inspection

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be membership or eligibility for membership with Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC (ASTTBC)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform inspections of municipal properties, construction sites, and infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with municipal codes and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to document inspection findings and prepare detailed reports
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with property owners, contractors, and city officials to address violations and issues
  • The candidates should be able to participate in training and stay updated on relevant municipal codes and inspection practices
