Alberta Health Services’ Step Up Step Down program offers transitional support for individuals with mental health challenges. It provides short-term intensive support for those stepping up from community-based care or stepping down from acute care settings. Through personalized treatment plans and community integration support, it aims to promote independence and wellness. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Master’s degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program
Experience: Candidates should have Five years post graduate experience working with children, youth, and families with complex needs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP)
  • The candidates should have completed one of the following programs: a master’s degree in Psychology; a master’s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization); a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; a master’s degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy
  • The candidates should all applicants should be registered with a regulating body under the Health Professions Act
  • The candidates should be prepared to work out of Red Deer Provincial building, Red Deer Regional Hospital, Michener Bend (Protective Safe House and Step Up Step Down), and eventually the new Center of Excellence
  • The candidates should have knowledge and a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience working with children, youth, and families
  • The candidates should be flexible and adaptable to program and client changing needs
  • The candidates should be motivated to learn and develop clinical skills and be willing to teach/mentor students and other team members
  • The candidates should understand the complex relationships between youth’s physical, emotional, mental, developmental, and spiritual health

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment
  • The candidates should be able to conduct psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards
  • The candidates should be able to provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes, and team functioning
  • The candidates should be able to consult and collaborate with teams and community services to ensure comprehensive care
  • The candidates should be able to provide supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists, and/or master’s level psychology students
  • The candidates should be able to provide input into program, policy, and/or procedure development, and participate in formal research initiatives
