Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should be enrolled as a second- or third-year nursing student
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to understand and perform duties effectively, communicate any pertinent issues regarding residents and their care, and work accurately and quickly
  • The candidates should be self-directed and team-oriented, with proficient organizational and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and joint decision-making, and integrated strategies
  • The candidates should successfully demonstrate critical thinking, comprehension, and the ability to set priorities by completing a pre-screening written assessment
  • The candidates should have experience working with seniors, knowledge of the aging process are desirable qualities and respect, understanding, and empathy for the elderly
  • The candidates should possess the ability to understand and follow out orders to perform duties effectively and communicate any pertinent issues regarding residents and their care

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should successfully complete the Medication Administration Certificate (MAC) training program for UCPs through the pharmacy and be signed off as competent by the Resident Wellness Manager or designate
  • The candidates should successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Check and disclose any convictions, charges, restraining orders, probation orders, and/or warrants during the course of employment that affect in any way the clear Vulnerable Sector Check
  • The candidates should provide a Tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) document or Medical Note from a Physician stating free from infectious disease and certification in First Aid and CPR is required

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform as a Medication Assistant Certified (MAC), a Personal Support Worker who is internally trained and assigned the responsibility for medication administration
  • The candidates should be able to handle resident personal care needs as part of their duties and carry out all duties in a safe manner by demonstrating skill, efficiency, and due diligence of all assigned duties with minimal supervision
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a clean working environment for all residents, workers and adhere to company policies, procedures, practices, and philosophies
  • The candidates should be able to work in accordance with all industry and regulatory compliance agencies, including the Ontario Retirement Communities Association, The Retirement Homes Act 2010 and O. Reg 166/1, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Fire Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and other pertinent legislated regulations/standards
  • The candidates should be able to maintain confidentiality with respect to resident and operational Residence matters, exercise courtesy, good judgment, and concern for the safety and well-being of residents and visitors. This includes adherence to the Social Media Policy
