Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of Diploma in urban planning
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years of experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be prepared for long periods of intense concentration at the computer while entering data, undertaking analysis, conducting research, and preparing reports, which is frequent
- The candidates should be capable of meeting multiple deadlines, which is occasional
- The candidates should be able to focus on detailed spreadsheets, databases, digital models, drawings, maps, and VDT for long periods, which is frequent
- The candidates should expect the work environment to be typically in an office setting
- The candidates should be aware that they may be required to work irregular hours, which is considered a premium item
- The candidates should be proficient in synthesizing and analyzing information and composing reports and documents
- The candidates should be adept at reading and interpreting technical plans and drawings, policies, legislation, and regulations
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should demonstrate an understanding and application of the principles and methods of demographic, social, economic, environmental, spatial, and urban development research and analysis to urban planning, strategic policy, and performance measurement
- The candidates should have working-level operation skills with current City word processing, spreadsheet, and related specialty software, including geographic information system (ARC GIS), 3-D digital form modeling, graphic design, and desktop publishing
- The candidates should exhibit the ability to deal effectively with the public and outside agencies
- The candidates should possess a current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
- The candidates should be aware that they may be requested to substitute in a more senior position
- The candidates should have establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and should possess the ability to organize and prioritize work effectively
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to support planning processes and the development, implementation, and monitoring of plans
- The candidates should be able to research and analyze a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative data (demographic, social, economic, environmental, urban development, and planning data) using various methodologies related to key indicators, trends, forecasts, best practices, city-wide, and local area plans and policy initiatives
- The candidates should be able to assist with layout, editing, and graphic support for planning documents and materials
- The candidates should be able to undertake spatial analyses using GIS software and develop, analyze, and revise urban form models in a 3-D digital environment, bringing recommendations to supervisors for urban planning initiatives
- The candidates should be able to assist with the organization of public engagement events, including the development of informational and graphic public engagement materials and collation of results
- The candidates should be able to participate in small group discussions at workshops, open houses, and public meetings
- The candidates should be able to update policy documents following approved amendments in consultation with senior staff
- The candidates should be able to maintain and update the Community Planning webpage content as needed in consultation with Citizen Engagement and Strategic Planning staff
- The candidates should be able to respond to inquiries from the public, outside agencies, and other departments by providing information on planning data and information on city-wide and local area planning policies
