Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Degree or diploma preferably in related field such as  Recreation and Leisure, Kinesiology, and Physical Education
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years of related programming and planning experience and 1 year of supervisory experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of related legislation in the applicable area of discipline
  • The candidates should demonstrate proficiency in MS Office and possess customer service skills and experience
  • The candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills and hold a current Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification
  • The candidates should possess a valid Ontario non-probationary Class G Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle
  • The candidates should obtain certifications in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development & QUEST 2, or have the ability to obtain them
  • The candidates should possess and maintain current certifications in National Lifeguard – Pool, Standard First Aid & CPR C, Lifesaving Instructors, Lifesaving Swim Instructors, Aquatic Supervisory Training or Aquatic Management Training, and Airway Management (or the ability to obtain them)
  • The candidates should possess certifications include Bronze Cross Examiner, First Aid Instructor/Examiner, National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner, Lifesaving Coach Level 1, Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, Pool Operators, Aquatic Safety Inspectors, Aquatic Fitness Certification (CALA, Water Art, or equivalent), BOAT Instructor, and Boat Rescue Instructor
  • The candidates should hold current FIS or PTS certification with CanFit Pro and/or CSEP and/or equivalent certification with recognized affiliation
  • The candidates should have a Professional Golf Management diploma and full Class “A” Certification or PGA of Canada Class A membership
  • The candidates should possess an NCCP Coaching Certificate and Gymnastics Level 2 certification

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide supervision to contract, part-time, and volunteer support staff, ensuring quality program delivery and excellent customer service to meet current and changing needs of the community
  • The candidates should be able to recruit, hire, train, and provide ongoing Supervision, Leadership, Coaching, and Recognition to part-time and volunteers in areas such as Aquatics/Skating and Active Living, which may include dance, racquet, fitness, outdoor education, youth/general, preschool, and child care
  • The candidates should be able to develop part-time staff and volunteers through seasonal trainings and ongoing coaching and feedback, implement and deliver an ongoing communication plan to direct reports, and adhere to corporate, departmental, and divisional standards
  • The candidates should be able to manage adherence to governing legislations and regulations, corporate policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines, and perform in accordance with facility Manager on Duty roles and responsibilities as required
  • The candidates should be able to develop and deliver proactive and strategic recruitment and retention plans for part-time staff and volunteers, evaluate training needs, and manage the execution of staff trainings, orientations, and meetings, verifying part-time payroll entry in accordance with staff schedules
  • The candidates should be able to prepare for and follow-up on incident/accidents reporting and communicate on a timely basis based on severity, provide sessional reporting of program capacities on the collection and analysis of data, customer satisfaction, revenue, and expenses
  • The candidates should be able to compile and review daily, weekly, and sessional statistics and checklists, follow up timely on program-related refund requests, adhere to all mandated deadlines, and participate in any quality assurance program
  • The candidates should be able to develop and monitor staff and volunteer schedules seasonally according to program needs, engage in proactive planning of upcoming sessions, ensure program plans are created, communicated, and available for all program staff
  • The candidates should be able to document staff and volunteer trainings, monitor staff certifications, maintain staff files, and ensure staff certifications remain current, ensuring all staff hiring packages are completed in a timely manner
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with internal and external groups as required related to programs, services, and special events, plan and deliver community special events in collaboration with facility and/or special events team
  • The candidates should be able to deliver strategies to increase customer recruitment and retention through continuous improvement of customer experience, foster and maintain ongoing excellent relationships with community partners in collaboration with the coordinator and able to purchase and manage inventory of program supplies and materials
  • The candidates should be able to conduct program quality assurance through ongoing program visits and observations, customer engagement, and participation experience, adhere to program development and brochure development processes, and execute action plans to meet targets and potential growth
  • The candidates should be able to assist Recreation Coordinator with marketing and business plans, attend school events to support program participation and development, and monitor and report on expenses and revenue actuals and forecasts according to portfolio
