Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of  a High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have 6 months of experience as a Labourer, Landscaper, Custodian, Janitor or in Arena operations

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should expect to work in environments with exposure to the public, all weather conditions, noise, dirt, insects, dust, fumes, cleaning chemicals, heights, interruptions, pedestrian or vehicular traffic, and slippery surfaces (ice, gravel). They should adhere to using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safely handle chemicals, tools, and light machinery following The City’s safety rules
  • The candidates should be prepared for physically demanding work that includes lifting (up to 55 lbs), carrying, pulling, pushing, bending, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, climbing, digging, raking, operating machines or tools, and performing repetitive motions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess current Intermediate First Aid from an Alberta OHS approved provider and Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) level “C” certification from an approved Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
  • The candidates should have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending
  • The candidates should possess or equivalency GED and consider obtaining Arena operator Level 1 and 2 certification
  • The candidates should be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search completed within the last 12 months
  • The candidates should obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit and ready to provide proof of qualifications
  • The candidates should be be contacted, interviewed, hired and an offer of employment is conditional upon passing a pre-employment drug test assessing for drug use, including cannabis. Failure to pass may prevent hiring into any safety-sensitive position for up to twelve months

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to clean and maintain floors, dressing rooms, players boxes, spectator seating, locker rooms, meeting rooms, windows, walls, and common areas and and empty garbage cans regularly
  • The candidates should be able to clean and restock washrooms to ensure cleanliness and availability of supplies
  • The candidates should be able to assist with minor repairs and participate during facility shutdowns
  • The candidates should be able to perform snow removal, graffiti removal, and de-icing tasks such as sanding and salting
  • The candidates should be able to assist with program and equipment setup and cleanup in various environments
  • The candidates should be able to assist Arena or Athletic Park personnel with daily ice maintenance, installation, and removal
  • The candidates should be able to support Arena or Athletic Park Attendants with sport field maintenance tasks
  • The candidates should be able to follow safety practices, policies, and adhere to equipment operation guidelines as per Code of Practice, Occupational Health and Safety (OH and S), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and Provincial Public Health Act
