Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Graduation from an approved school of nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to constantly move or lift up to 10 lbs regularly move or lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally restrain, reposition, move or lift up to 30 lbs. They should be able to push or pull up to medium force
  • The candidates should be prepared to constantly stand or walk and work in awkward or cramped positions to assist with procedures
  • The candidates should constantly use fine finger or precision, auditory, sensory, and visual concentration to provide and conduct risk assessments, observe or monitor patients, complete documents, follow directions, and administer medications
  • The candidates should be aware that they may be subject to time pressures and deadlines and may experience a lack of control over their work pace

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a Bachelor of Nursing Degree and hold a current practicing license with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) and current BLS for Health Care Providers Certification
  • The candidates should have successfully completed a recognized Post-Basic Gerontology Program, Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Gerontological Nursing, Advanced Foot Care course, and Leadership courses
  • The candidates should have previous experience caring for geriatric populations, including those with dementia and those with intellectual and physical disabilities
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable of seniors’ issues and support best practices in gerontological care
  • The candidates should have the ability to deal effectively with end-of-life issues
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead a unit in the provision of quality nursing care and advocate for the philosophy of resident centered care
  • The candidates should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with residents and their families
  • The candidates should exhibit leadership and supervisory skills
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to lead, coordinate, and participate in the delivery of holistic and supportive care to residents by assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care
  • The candidates should be able to provide health promotion, curative, supportive, rehabilitative, and palliative services
  • The candidates should be able to provide professional supervision and direction to the nursing care team
  • The candidates should be able to support other members of the interprofessional team to achieve safe and effective care for residents
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that documentation and nursing policies and practices are followed
  • The candidates should be able to work together with families to ensure the highest standard of resident-centered care
  • The candidates should be able to manage the diverse needs of residents resulting from chronic illness, functional, and cognitive impairments
  • The candidates should be able to provide care for a population that includes frail or elderly adults, individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, and individuals with mental illness
  • The candidates should be able to function with considerable independence in a fast-paced environment with frequent contact with the public, residents, and other health professionals
  • The candidates should be able to act as the initial ‘on site’ contact to address issues related to resident, staff and building safety after hours and on weekends
