Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to understand the needs of and to show compassion and respect for tenants, and to develop professional relationships with tenants, other staff, and the public and ability to monitor the general well-being of tenants and to provide practical advice and assistance
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to ensure that policies and procedures, rules, and regulations are followed by exercising firmness, tact, and diplomacy, and ability to effectively de-escalate conflicts
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to take effective measures in emergency situations or scenarios which require immediate attention in accordance with relevant COV policies and procedures, and ability to contact appropriate authorities
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and skills and ability to clearly and factually report incidents and work activities – orally and in writing
  • The candidates should have the ability to learn assigned administrative, clerical tasks and to perform them in accordance with established procedures
  • The candidates should have the ability to perform basic First Aid procedures and skills to carry-out minor maintenance and cleaning tasks

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a including or supplemented by courses related to the work, plus related experience in non-profit housing with an emphasis on working with people who experience issues with mental health, addictions, homelessness, and/or poverty, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The candidates should have experience in a supervisory role in a unionized environment and application of Collective Bargaining Agreement and Occupational First Aid Certification, Level I and provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
  • The candidates should have working knowledge, understanding of mental health and addiction complexities, including harm reduction principles and practices and sound knowledge of the purpose and principles of Non-Market housing, operating within a social housing context
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of modern supervisory and office management procedures; ability to effectively direct the work of subordinate staff and demonstrated ability to follow and make decisions based on the policies, rules, and regulations related to Non-Market Housing Operations and the COV
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to deliver excellent tenant-centered service, strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to make decisions quickly and confidently based on COV policies and practices
  • The candidates should have experience with organizing and assigning shift tasks and holding staff members accountable for completion, working knowledge of the health and safety precautions related to the position and some working knowledge of common administrative/clerical methods and procedures
  • The candidates should have some working knowledge of community supports and resources appropriate for the needs of tenants and some working knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to oversee all property management, tenant management, and facility management issues, including crisis management, during the absence of the senior manager
  • The candidates should be able to respond to emergencies, critical incidents, and situations, including those involving first responders, and provide additional staffing support and respond to emergencies and incidents, administer First Aid, de-escalate situations, and prepare written incident reports
  • The candidates should be able to build professional, compassionate, and respectful working relationships with tenants and guests, completing daily wellness checks to ensure their safety and well-being and provide support to tenants, report concerns, and refer tenants to outside agencies as directed by the Residence Manager (RM)
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership to Residence Attendants (RAs), model behaviors supporting teamwork, good judgment, and compassion, and provide recognition and feedback and monitor and inspect all areas of the facility, ensuring tenant and visitor compliance with policies and responding to any violations
  • The candidates should be able to identify concerns and provide reports to the RM, maintaining accurate logs and documenting maintenance problems
  • The candidates should be able to monitor the front desk, ensuring visitors sign in and out, and provide additional administrative support as needed, including rent collection and mail distribution and perform basic janitorial tasks and minor maintenance duties to ensure the building is maintained
  • The candidates should be able to assist with administrative functions such as data input, generating reports, and maintaining tenant information systems and assign and oversee tasks for staff members (RAs) and respond to any issues or emergencies that arise during their shift
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively by reporting duties performed and actions taken through electronic reports at the end of each shift and assist with tenant file restructuring, identifying missing documentation, and tracking missing items
  • The candidates should be able to handle shift cancellations, fill shifts as needed, and complete all related paperwork and train new hires on policies and procedures during the orientation process and perform special projects or other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager, Quality Assurance (QA), RM, or designate
