Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Completion of grade 8 or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the operation of equipment such as heavy road rollers and related equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should provide a copy of their five-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 30 days of this posting
  • The candidates should provide a copy of their five-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 30 days of this posting
  • The candidates should have skill in the operation of medium-sized construction equipment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess considerable knowledge of the methods and practices employed in the operation of heavy roller equipment
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of the rules of safe operation and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents when operating such equipment
  • The candidates should have some knowledge of the methods, practices, and tools used in servicing and making adjustments to such equipment
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and effectively carry out oral instructions
  • The candidates should have interpretation and understanding of the Call-One packages of information
  • The candidates should hold an applicable Driver’s License and endorsements as required by the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment involved with stump grinding
  • The candidates should be able to understand that stump grinding operations are an important and necessary role that supports the continuation of the Urban Forest
  • The candidates should be able to interpret and understand the Call-One packages of information as required for the job
  • The candidates should be able to operate and service a large stump grinder, including towable units and mounted tow-behind units
  • The candidates should be able to perform stump grinding in parks and on streets citywide
  • The candidates should be able to supervise two or more subordinates as directed by the Superintendent of Urban Forestry
  • The candidates should be able to complete VanTree work orders as part of their responsibilities
  • The candidates should be able to remove wood debris from sites as part of the stump removal process
  • The candidates should be able to operate a chainsaw or reciprocating saw to sever large roots or cut stumps below grade
  • The candidates should be able to work in conjunction with hydrovac operations as required
  • The candidates should be able to perform physical tasks, including shoveling debris and soil from ground into a truck or trailer
  • The candidates should be able to perform any related work as required for the position
