Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have 1 year of related experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to lift and move heavy equipment and materials often
  • The candidates should be capable of performing repetitious tasks such as scraping, brushing, and shoveling frequently
  • The candidates should be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions continuously
  • The candidates should be comfortable working in close proximity to moving equipment and traffic frequently
  • The candidates should have experience working from heights often
  • The candidates should be accustomed to exposure to equipment noise often
  • The candidates should be willing to work irregular hours (considered a premium item)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to understand and carry out job-related instructions effectively
  • The candidates should have the ability to discuss job-related matters with colleagues
  • The candidates should be proficient in operating various hand and power tools and painting equipment
  • The candidates should be capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
  • The candidates should prioritize working and operating equipment safely
  • The candidates should possess a current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist in the installation, maintenance, and removal of road markings and signs and posts, as well as the removal of graffiti
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the installation, maintenance, and removal of road features such as painted road and curb markings and symbols, signs, signposts, pavement markers, and bollards
  • The candidates should be able to excavate and mix and place concrete for the installation of signposts and able to clean and prepare surfaces for paint application
  • The candidates should be able to mark out layout prior to installation and able to place and collect cones and signs in the work area
  • The candidates should be able to operate a vehicle and trailer for the transport of equipment and materials and able to assist with the operation of various paint application and removal equipment
  • The candidates should be able to use various hand tools such as hammer drill, angle grinder, coring machine, and post straightener
  • The candidates should be able to perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns, and other equipment
  • The candidates should be able to load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift and be able to remove or paint over graffiti from City property
