The City of Toronto’s Corporate Real Estate Management and Corporate Security division and section play crucial roles in ensuring the efficient operation and security of the city’s real estate assets and facilities. This department is responsible for overseeing the management, acquisition, and disposal of the city’s real estate properties, ensuring that these assets are utilized effectively and maintained in a cost-efficient manner. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function or the approved equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience providing facility security including the use of security systems and key systems
Computer and technology knowledge: Microsoft Word and Excel, mainframe systems, divisional databases

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have reporting skills, maintaining clear, concise, legible security reports and records, compiling accurate information, preparing effective reports and correspondence and operating and monitoring computerized security equipment
  • The candidates should be proficient in using various tools and equipment related to the role, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as batons, ballistic resistive vests, handcuffs, and two-way radios
  • The candidates should be prepared to pass a thorough medical and physical examination, complete mandatory training and recertification related to City of Toronto Use of Force, management of resistive behaviour, de-escalation training, defensive tactics, handcuffing and baton use, Standard First Aid, CPR level ‘C’ and AED, WHMIS, and other position-related training

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold a valid Security Guard License in accordance with the Ontario Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005, S.O. 2005, c. 34, valid certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR level ‘C’ and be certified to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • The candidates should be in Possession of a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License, City’s Driver’s Permit, strong knowledge of legislative policies, including the Criminal Code, Trespass to Property Act, and WHMIS, as well as relevant Security policies
  • The candidates should possess highly developed interpersonal and customer service skills, including conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making, and situational assessment, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to respond to staff and the public in a courteous and effective manner

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide security services to City-owned and/or operated properties, which includes patrolling, responding to security and law enforcement calls, and maintaining confidentiality
  • The candidates should be able to monitor, investigate, and act on security breaches, criminal code violations, safety hazards, illegal entry, theft, and equipment issues
  • The candidates should be be capable of responding to emergencies, conducting security audits, escorting authorities, and providing security for events
  • The candidates must be able to maintain logbooks, investigate complaints, administer first aid, enforce bylaws, and stay updated on relevant legislation and City policies, ensuring compliance with the Private Security and Investigative Service Act
