Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a post-secondary degree in environmental science, engineering or other related environmental discipline
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the use of environmental modeling software, preferably air dispersion modeling

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing the physical duties assigned to the position such as conducting air quality monitoring and assessments at various sites
  • The candidates should be willing and able to travel with occasional overnight stays as required

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license
  • The candidates should have experience in the analysis of common air pollutants, air emission monitoring methodologies, and air pollution control technologies
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge in the conduct of environmental assessment, or reviewing the environmental impacts of a proposal or development, specifically related to air quality
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • The candidates should possess effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • The candidates should have strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate highly technical and non-technical information to all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
  • The candidates should possess strong written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and recommendations for a variety of audiences, including those from a non-technical background
  • The candidates should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to formulate, develop, monitor, and interpret policy, legislative, and regulatory initiatives and programs
  • The candidates should have experience with Microsoft Office applications or equivalent software and have knowledge of federal/provincial air quality regulations, guidelines, and standards
  • The candidates should have knowledge of industrial/manufacturing processes and sources of air pollution

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide scientific and technical support and advice on air quality matters to Manitoba Environment and Climate Change, other government departments, and its clients (industry, consultants, and public)
  • The candidates should be able to conduct research and analysis to assess air quality issues and develop recommendations for air quality management strategies
