Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post-secondary education in a related area
Experience: Candidates should have extensive relevant experience delivering results in a similar role

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing and able to travel to various locations within the City of Toronto
  • The candidates should be capable of initiating, coordinating, and managing the implementation of solutions and preventive measures to potential issues
  • The candidates should maintain accurate, detailed documentation and records, both electronically and in hard copy

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a CHRP designation, Master of Industrial Relations (MIR), and/or JD/LLB
  • The candidates should have extensive experience with labour relations in a major, multi-union public or private sector organization, including hands-on experience in arbitrations, mediations, Labour Board, and/or related hearings
  • The candidates should demonstrate extensive experience in interpreting, applying, and administering collective agreements, specifically with experience in construction trades
  • The candidates should have progressive experience with private and/or public labour negotiations at the bargaining table, including costing and drafting collective agreement proposals and language
  • The candidates should possess highly developed supervisory and counseling management skills in labour relations techniques, best practices, and the resolution of workplace issues
  • The candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to identify business needs and opportunities for change/improvement
  • The candidates should have the ability to exercise judgment and discretion, applying a broad perspective requiring integrated knowledge of human resource management, related disciplines, and business processes
  • The candidates should possess highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively develop and cultivate productive working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization, including Legal and union officials
  • The candidates should have excellent presentation and communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with various levels of staff within the organization
  • The candidates should exhibit strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing interests in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment
  • The candidates should have a thorough knowledge of employment and related legislation (Ontario Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act), equity principles, contractual obligations, and sound human resource practices

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide critical advice and support to a selected portfolio of client divisions
  • The candidates should be able to manage the grievance process and advise on the interpretation and application of collective agreements, investigations and disciplinary actions, the Labour Relations Act, and other related employment legislation
  • The candidates should be able to conduct thorough and effective grievance investigations, including interviews, obtaining documentary and factual data, managing and attending grievance hearings, and arbitrations
  • The candidates should be able to investigate allegations of infringements of various legislation, including the Labour Relations Act, the Human Rights Code, and the Employment Standards Act
  • The candidates should be able to provide detailed research and analysis for collective agreement negotiations and participate directly in the collective bargaining process
  • The candidates should be able to mentor and coach consultants and support staff, providing leadership and ensuring quality service delivery
  • The candidates should be able to represent the Employee Relations team on task forces, corporate initiatives, committees, grievance arbitrations, and other human resource issues
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement recommendations for compliance with collective agreement interpretation and administration, employment law, technical training design requirements
  • The candidates should be able to develop effective labour relations training manuals and deliver training to client groups
  • The candidates should be able to provide quality control for work planning and develop work objectives based on Employee & Labour Relations goals and client needs
  • The candidates should be able to travel to various work locations
